Southern Italy Tour
Embark on a spectacular 12-day journey exploring the diverse landscapes, ancient history, and world-class gastronomy of Southern Italy, crossing three distinct regions: Sicily, Calabria, and Puglia/Basilicata.
Part I: Sicily – Ancient Roots and Volcanic Drama (Days 1–3)
Your adventure begins in Catania, a city defined by its youthful energy, chaotic charm, and earthy spirit. Enjoy a guided tour and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. The journey continues to Taormina, a chic resort town dramatically perched on a mountainside, where you will explore the historic Greek Theatre and charming, colorful streets. In the afternoon, experience the majesty of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano, reaching 1800m for breathtaking panoramic views. (Optional: Deepen your experience with a specialized wine tasting at a biological estate like Monaci delle Terre Nere, guided by an expert sommelier).
The Sicilian leg concludes in Syracuse and its beautiful island heart, Ortigia. Explore the vast archaeological site, a treasure trove of Greek temples and amphitheaters, and wander through Ortigia's deeply atmospheric quarter, renowned for its attractive dining and streetscapes.
Part II: Calabria – Coastal Serenity (Days 4–6)
You will transfer to the Tropea area in Calabria for three days dedicated to relaxation and coastal beauty. Settle into your hotel and enjoy free time on the beach. (Optional excursions are available, including guided half-day tours of Tropea and Capo Vaticano, or a visit to Pizzo, famous for its historic castle and unique dessert, the tartufo ice cream).
Part III: Puglia & Basilicata – Sassi, Trulli, and Baroque Masterpieces (Days 7–11)
The tour moves inland, first with a visit to Tenuta Viglione in Murgia Barese for an exquisite Primitivo wine tasting experience amidst the vineyards. You will then proceed to Matera (European Capital of Culture 2019) to explore the historic Sassi (cave dwellings) and enjoy the unique experience of a lunch served within the ancient Caves.
The following days explore the Valle d’Itria, a landscape defined by expansive olive groves and intricate dry-stone walls.

Architectural Wonders: Visit the "White City" of Ostuni, the circular historic center of Locorotondo (including its unique urban wine estate), and the essential Trulli capital, Alberobello.

Baroque Elegance & Wine: Explore Martina Franca's ornate Baroque center, admire its Ducal Palace, and enjoy a coffee and pastry at the famous Café Tripoli. Afterward, journey to Manduria to visit the Museo della Civiltà del vino Primitivo, learning about and tasting the iconic local wine.

Lecce, The Baroque Pearl: Dedicate a full day to Lecce, the "Florence of Southern Italy," renowned for its extravagant Baroque style carved from the local soft stone. Discover the Basilica di Santa Croce, the Duomo, and the imposing city gates.

Coastal Finale: The final excursion takes you to Bari, the regional capital, to visit the Swabian Castle and the Cathedrals of St. Nicholas and St. Sabino. Conclude in Trani, admiring its beautiful coastal cathedral and the architectural traces of Byzantine, Arab, and Norman history.
Day 12: Departure
After breakfast, enjoy a private transfer back to Catania airport with your tour escort for your onward journey.
